Enfield residents are being invited to a food exhibition that will be touring the borough in the coming months.
The Enfield to Fork exhibition will run from Saturday 3 July to Friday 1 October. It has been organised by the Museum of Enfield and will provide an overview of food heritage in Enfield.
Enfield has a history of producing flour and a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, as well as acres of farmland.
The free outdoor display will showcase the history of food in Enfield; including industry, Dig For Victory, farming, market gardening and the formation of Enfield Market.
The exhibition will offer an insight into some of Enfield’s well-known food businesses such as Wright’s Flour Mill in Ponders End, Belling and Forty Hall Farm.
The importance of the Enfield Foodbank and The Felix Project, a London-based food redistribution charity that tackles food waste and hunger, will be highlighted in the exhibition.
Visitors will be able to view 18 panels containing a mixture of graphics, text and images that will provide a taste of the borough’s food heritage; and at the same time raise awareness of the Enfield Museum which is located at the Dugdale Centre in London Road, Enfield Town.
Residents can look forward to Enfield to Fork activities including two days of art workshops from local artist Lisa Howes of Art Stop. There will also be a range of free activities to download and do at home, available on the museum’s website.
On Sunday 8 August, Forty Hall will see a day of and wine tasting, a beekeeper’s talk, farmers market and a vineyard tour.
Other highlights include an illustrated talk about the Ferme Ornee (ornamental farm) and a visit from the Forty Hall cook and Lady Rainton.
