Enfield Council’s Cabinet has agreed that the lease for Millfield Arts Centre should be awarded to performance company Platinum Performing Arts, following a competitive bidding process.
This significant move ensures that Millfield House, Theatre and site will continue to serve the local community, offering a diverse range of arts and performance activities.
The proposal to award the lease to Platinum Performing Arts was discussed by the Cabinet at a meeting on Wednesday, 13 March and is subject to call in.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Spaces, Culture and Local Economy, said: “Platinum Performing Arts, an established presence at the site since 2020, is uniquely positioned to lead the Millfield Arts Centre into a new era. Their successful bid emphasizes a commitment to maintaining the theatre and arts centre as a vibrant hub for cultural and community engagement.”
This partnership aligns with the Council's strategic objectives to create opportunities for young people and ensure cultural participation by valuing the role of the arts centre in community wellbeing.
Platinum's vision for the Millfield Arts Centre encompasses an inspiring mix of performances, workshops, classes, and community activities, contributing to the borough's cultural infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The current theatre programme includes original performances, pantomime, comedy, cabaret, karaoke and more. The theatre also offers programming for local communities including the Greek Arts Festival, Bulgarian Folk and Traditions Event and London Turkish Speakers Theatre Festival. Attendance data suggest many local people visit the Theatre as well as some customers from outside the borough, from Haringey and Waltham Forest.
Cllr Anyanwu added: “By entrusting the management of the Millfield Arts Centre to Platinum Performing Arts, Enfield Council reaffirms its dedication to community wellbeing. The collaboration promises to unlock new possibilities for cultural participation and creative expression, ensuring a bright future for the arts in Enfield.”
