The second edition of Enfield’s Climate Action Plan will be formally unveiled at a special environmental event during London Climate Action Week.

Residents of all ages are invited to share in the Council’s vision, progress and next steps outlined in the Plan which aims to tackle the challenges of climate change head-on.

The event will be held at Edmonton Green Library on 22 June, from 11.00am to 3.00pm.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Culture and Public Spaces, Cllr Chinelo Anyanwu, said: “We are excited to announce the second edition of our Climate Action Plan and to share our progress and future initiatives with the community. This event is a fantastic opportunity for residents to network, learn, and contribute to a greener Enfield.”

“It is hugely ambitious and challenging to achieve carbon neutrality and tackle emissions. However, we have made massive progress in reaching our goals, including restoring green spaces and improving accessibility, retrofitting council houses to improve efficiencies, and increasing investment in flood alleviation projects and wetlands across the borough.”

The event is designed to be as informative as possible, with talks and workshops on community, energy, recycling, food growing and more. Other activities include Dr Bike repair service for residents to check their bikes are road-worthy and safe and Give & Take with Enfield Council, where residents can exchange household items, for free.

Enfield Council declared an emergency in 2019 in recognition of the scale of the challenges faced by climate change. The updated Climate Action Plan 2024 builds upon the first proposal established in 2020 to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable living practices to become a carbon-neutral organisation by 2030 and a carbon-neutral borough by 2040.

The Plan commits to making investments to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change in a way that reduces costs and generates longer-term savings in a way that tackles inequality and poverty. This includes creating green jobs and employment opportunities to strengthen our workforce and support the local economy.

Enfield Council is committed to creating a sustainable and resilient borough through its Blue and Green strategy and implementation of the Climate Action Plan 2024.
