Baby Loss Awareness Week statement from Cllr Gina Needs

Cllr

Enfield Council is supporting national Baby Loss Awareness Week that takes place from 9 to 15 October.

The week is for bereaved parents and their families to remember their babies who have died too soon.

Cllr Gina Needs, Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion and Enforcement at Enfield Council, said: “The death of a baby is devastating.

“Many residents in Enfield have sadly been affected by baby loss, so I think it’s important that we all show support for bereaved parents living in the borough by recognising Baby Loss Awareness Week.

“The theme for this year’s Baby Loss Awareness Week is 'Together, we care' and is about finding time to care for ourselves, and each other.

"During this Baby Loss Awareness Week, it is important to find ways that help you to look after your mental and physical wellbeing.

“Baby Loss Awareness Week culminates with a Wave of Light on Tuesday 15 October, which is also a globally recognised event.

"I’m pleased to announce that in support of the #WaveOfLight, Enfield Civic Centre will be lit up in pink and blue light on the evening of 15 October.

“Baby loss does not just affect mothers, but fathers, grandparents, siblings, friends and wider families and can create a complex range of emotions.

“Baby Loss Awareness Week is an opportunity to give anyone affected by baby loss a safe and supportive space to share their experiences and to feel they are not alone.

“An Enfield resident is inviting bereaved parents to tie ribbons displaying the names of babies who have died to the large oak tree on the green at Enfield Town Library.

“We hope that with this small gesture of lighting up the Civic Centre we can share the message of togetherness and compassion.”
