Enfield Council's school transition event a roaring success

Hundreds of families were welcomed to Enfield Council’s inaugural, in-person event for students transitioning from primary to secondary schools in the borough.

Hosted by Enfield Council’s Education Service, the sold-out event at Cineworld Southbury Road, proved to be a resounding success as it offered parents, carers and students the opportunity to explore multiple secondary school offers, all under one roof.

More than 400 families received insights from 18 schools and academies, followed by informative talks on the transition process and an overview of the school application procedure. The impact of the event was immediate, as several schools reported an increase in their open evening registration.

In Enfield, 97 per cent of schools are rated ‘Good’ or higher by Ofsted and the borough has one of the lowest permanent exclusion rates in the country.

Cllr Abdul Abdullahi, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “The journey to becoming young adults can be exciting but daunting for all parents, carers and students. This is why we are delighted to have hosted the first-ever School Transition Event in Enfield to help ease the process from primary to secondary school.

“Events like these will allow us to equip our students, as well as their parents and carers, with the correct resources and highlight opportunities available at our excellent schools in Enfield. Through this, we aim to empower young people in our borough so they can get an early head start in their educational journey.”

Enfield Council is committed to improving educational outcomes for all children through early access to opportunities and the right resources.

The overwhelming success of the event has prompted Enfield's Education team to plan for an even larger event next year, ensuring more families can benefit.
