Residents and visitors will be welcomed with a host of activities in town centres to celebrate Christmas in Enfield.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without beautifully lit high streets, and this year, Enfield Council will again put up installations across seven town centres, to help residents get into the festive spirit.
In addition, the Council, community groups and partners have created a fantastic festive programme to connect and celebrate our towns, support local businesses and bring residents together. (See the schedule, below.)
The Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Placemaking at Enfield Council, Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, said: “We know how important our town centres are. They are hubs for entrepreneurship, job creation and community cohesion. I am so glad we are able to support many activities this Christmas, which in turn will boost the local economy and bring our neighbourhoods together.”
Enfield Council’s award-winning affordable workplace scheme, Angel Yard, will host a community tree lighting on 28 November in Upper Edmonton. Residents are welcome to attend and will have an opportunity to meet some of the local business owners who operate from Angel Yard and mingle over mince pies and mulled wine. The Leader of Enfield Council will have the honour of switching on the lights at this unique enterprise scheme. The event will be raising money for London’s homeless through the charity Hands On Hands Out.
Meanwhile, the Pavilion on the Green in Edmonton will be host to a Christmas event featuring music and activities, organised by the local community, on 14 December. The Pavilion is one of five ‘culture places’ delivered by Enfield Council in each of its main town centres to invest in and support our vibrant high streets, bringing longer-term transformational change to Enfield.
Everyone is invited to join the Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Mohammad Islam, on Small Business Saturday, 1 December, who will attend a special Christmas Parade of Lights and festivities in Enfield town centre.
The Parade of Lights is organised by a group of Enfield residents for the benefit of the local community. The free event has been made possible with the financial support of The Old Enfield Charitable Trust, Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, and local businesses Curwens Solicitors, F. Upson Funeral Directors, G. Mantella Jewellers Enfield, Kings Group, Baker and Chase and 3 Drakes. Look out for the Enfield Concert Band, bell ringing and fireworks display.
The Mayor will also switch on the lights in Palmers Green on 21 November. On 8 December, the Festive Makers Market will return to Devonshire Square in Palmers Green, organised by Arbeit Studios. The market brings together local businesses, makers and artists and is an opportunity to see Arbeit’s latest Artist in Residence exhibition with a free glass of mulled wine.
And finally, a community engagement event will kick off in Southgate alongside the launch of the Southgate Pocket Park and Chase Side rain garden, on 7 December. The two features in Southgate have been delivered as part of a Council programme to develop a long-term vision and masterplan for Southgate.
Cabinet Member for Transport and Waste at Enfield Council, Cllr Rick Jewell, said: “I would like to invite all residents to come and join us for our festive light switch-ons and events in our town centres. I hope that our residents will continue to support and boost local businesses by shopping locally. I’d like to thank local volunteers, business leaders and community groups for coming together to show how Enfield celebrates the festive season.”
