Southgate Pocket Park

Enfield Council recently delivered the Southgate Pocket Park, an upgraded green area that has added new seating and planting. Last week we were joined by Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Placemaking Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, members of Friends of Enfield Chase and students from Palmers Green High School to plant small shrubs and flowers.

Everyone got their gloves on and trowels ready to plant more than 250 plants across the Pocket Park. Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped deliver this revitalised green space!

The Pocket Park features natural oak felled trees from Epping Forest that have been carved into seating units and stepping logs which include text and icons that celebrate the significance of Enfield Chase (the royal hunting ground) in the history of Southgate Town Centre. It was identified as an area that could be upgraded by the community during a walkaround of the Town Centre, and over the past couple of years we have worked alongside the community to design the space so that it is more welcoming, safer, greener and has places to sit and rest.

The Pocket Park will serve as a temporary ‘culture place’ for Southgate Town Centre. A permanent ‘culture place’ location will be developed in collaboration with the community as part of longer-term vision for the Town Centre. The Pocket Park is alongside Southgate Tube Station (next to Nando’s) and is now open to visit.
