A new platform has been launched for Enfield’s council housing residents to share their views and for the Council to maximise engagement with tenants and leaseholders.
The Enfield 500 is a wide ranging and productive advisory group where members are encouraged to help shape the planning, design and delivery of housing services.
There are already 270 members who have in their first engagement sessions with the Council voiced their opinions on issues including: reporting antisocial behaviour (ASB); enhancing security on estates; improving communal areas; and the potential provision of a food waste and composting service.
One early success of The Enfield 500 has been the introduction of a pilot roving security service across nine estates, following residents’ feedback about safety and ASB. The teams can be deployed to any hotspots and are trained in defusing problematic situations, mediation and community engagement.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Ayten Guzel, said: “We remain committed to listening to our tenants’ and leaseholders’ proposals, comments and concerns. We're always working to help improve our council estates and our services. We also know our residents want a flexible membership system, predominantly online, with regular, monthly updates. We have taken on board all these suggestions and, given that more than half of the membership slots have been filled, I can see this will prove to be a very important engagement vehicle. It will provide the chance for meaningful participation and will ensure residents’ views can be heard and acknowledged.”
The Enfield 500 will amalgamate and enhance the functions of Customer Voice, the Council’s former resident engagement forum. Cllr Guzel added: “I would like to thank all Customer Voice members with whom we have worked for several years and hope they will bring their experience and energy to The Enfield 500 going forward.”
