Residents are invited to shape the future of Southgate and to help determine improvements to create a more vibrant, greener and healthier town centre.
On 7 December, Enfield Council will host a festive celebration in Southgate, where there will be an opportunity to share views on the Southgate Masterplan Vision. Visitors will also be able to take a look at the most recent enhancements in the town centre, including the Chase Side Rain Gardens and Pocket Park.
The Southgate Masterplan Vision will be informed by what people want to see in the town centre to improve the everyday experience for residents and visitors. The priorities for the Masterplan include further developments to the public realm, encouragement for people to travel more actively, maintaining the links to Southgate’s strong heritage and exploring the delivery of a ‘Culture Place’, with activities that focus on local culture, learning and wellbeing. This Vision seeks to address the issues and opportunities identified in the Town Centre Action Plan, published in 2022.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Climate Action, Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, said: “The Masterplan Vision for Southgate will first and foremost be a collaboration between the Council and local people, so we collectively shape the town centre’s future. It will include proposals to enhance the everyday experience of people who live in, work in or visit Southgate. We have already received invaluable feedback from residents, community organisations and local businesses, and we have had a brilliant time recently working with local people on the Pocket Park and Rain Gardens. I look forward to the next phase of this collaboration for Southgate.”
Cllr Ozaydin, recently met with the members of Friends of Enfield Chase and students from Palmers Green High School to plant small shrubs and flowers at the Pocket Park. The Park features natural oak felled trees from nearby Epping Forest that have been carved into seating units and stepping logs which include text and icons that celebrate the history of Southgate.
