A statement from Cllr Gina Needs, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Cohesion at Enfield Council, on International Women's Day (IWD):

Enfield Council is celebrating International Women's Day that takes place on Saturday 8 March.

“The annual event honours women's achievements, raises awareness, and educates communities about gender equality.

“This year's theme is Accelerate Action which focuses on the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional lives.

“As Enfield residents, we can all take steps in our daily lives to positively impact women's advancement by calling out stereotypes, challenge discrimination, question bias and celebrate women's success.

“It’s important we continue to provide women and girls with access to quality education and training in the borough and elevate women and girl's participation and achievement in sport.

"On this day, I would ask all of our residents to pause and reflect on the huge benefits to be gained by supporting inclusivity for women and how this can make for a fairer, kinder place for us all to live.

"We will be flying the International Women’s Day flag outside the Civic Centre in a show of solidarity and support.”
