Leader's Statement on Enfield's Youth Offer

Cllr

Cllr Ergin Erbil, Leader of Enfield Council, said: “Supporting our young people to grow and succeed in the borough is an absolute priority for me and our Council.

“We are not planning to close any of our youth centres. We are looking at how we can provide better youth services in the borough.

“Discussions are currently taking place with local voluntary, community, and youth groups about how they can provide great services for our young people in our Croyland and Allan Pullinger youth centres.

“We want to do more work with voluntary and community groups in all our youth centres to support our young people.

“Enfield’s youth service and youth centres already provide many great activities.  Here are some examples:

  • Mentoring, drop-in sessions for information, advice and guidance
  • Boxing, basketball, football, keep fit classes, instructed climbing lessons
  • Girls group, youth support for children with SEND and children in care
  • Learning activities helping young people to gain skills and qualifications including mechanics and bike workshops and Young Leaders programmes
  • Drama, arts and crafts classes, music studio facilities – offering workshops and live music sessions and music production, video production projects
  • Life skills workshops including cooking, healthy living, job search and CV writing, independent living
  • Summer University providing everything from sports and leisure courses to fashion design workshops and business skills and enterprise classes
  • Youth Council and Members of Youth Parliament, KRATOS good citizenship and youth democracy projects
  • Careers Fairs and Recruitment Days offering career advice, jobs, and opportunities to young people.

“And for young people who do not choose to come to youth centres we have a Mobile Youth Bus and street youth work – so that we can go to them.

“Thank you to those people who have already taken part in the Youth Consultation. Your views are valuable in helping to shape our youth services to meet your needs.”
