Community minded people are being encouraged to embrace the I Love Enfield campaign and give up a little time to volunteer for good causes.
Now that the great British summer is out of the way and the kids are back at school there is a host of ways residents can get involved and help their community such as kerbside planting, working with Enfield’s young people or becoming a school governor.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Cohesion, Cllr Nneka Keazor, said: “Our I Love Enfield Campaign aims to build stronger communities, encourage people to take pride in Enfield’s streets and neighbourhoods.
“There are plenty of ways to get involved and join the 100,000 or so people in Enfield who give up their spare time to help others.
“Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people and feel good about yourself, so it might be time to consider to help us build and even better Enfield and create even greater communities.”
Many residents of Enfield already give up their valuable time to help others and the Council wants to hear from and give some recognition to volunteers for their hard work and support within the community.
There are opportunities to volunteer across voluntary service and community organisations in Enfield as well as a number of opportunities to work with Council departments.
Enfield Volunteer Centre works to find opportunities for volunteers across a number of organisations and can be contacted by ringing 020 8373 6348.
It holds regular half-day 'Introduction to Volunteering' workshops and offers one-to-one appointments on Thursday mornings. Both services are free of charge.
Volunteering opportunities range from helping with outdoor projects to more structured roles such as working with vulnerable people.
Volunteers can gain experience in administration, office skills and fundraising, as well as being involved in influencing the way local services are planned and delivered.
People who volunteer in Enfield can register for the 100 hours volunteering scheme which is recognised by a wide range of charities in the borough.
People who do more than two hours of volunteering a week with a registered organisation, get a scheme membership card which can be used to record each hour of volunteering they complete.
Volunteers with 100 hours under their belt are invited to a reception by Enfield Council in recognition of their hard work and support for their community and also receive a certificate and a limited edition pin badge.
