The Leader of Enfield Council has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award by the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) – a think tank which works to strengthen local democracy.
Cllr Nesil Caliskan has been shortlisted for the Leader of the Year Award as part of the LGiU & CCLA Cllr Achievement Awards. The winners will be announced on 5 November.
Cllr Caliskan said: “I’m delighted to have been nominated and shortlisted for the LGiU Leader of the Year Award 2019.
“It is an honour to mark my first year leading the new administration at Enfield Council.
“I’m proud of what we, councillors and Council officers have already achieved as Enfield Council. Even in these toughest of times we can be ambitious for the borough and innovative in our delivery of services.
“Enfield’s residents are at the heart of every decision we make – reducing inequality, creating good growth or improving the public services our most vulnerable rely on, and working to make the borough a safer and cleaner place to live and work.
“No part of the borough or the people who live there should be forgotten.”
Cllr Caliskan was elected to represent Jubilee Ward in 2015 and became the borough’s first female leader in 2018.
