A new collaborative urban art project in Bush Hill Park was unveiled by the Mayor of Enfield at the park’s third summer picnic (Sunday 7 July).
The project was led by local artist Karen Rubins who created the piece of work with input from children from George Spicer and Kingsmead Schools. The project was made possible with £5,000 from the Mayor of London’s Culture Seeds programme, which offers grants to support community-led cultural projects in London.
The murals have been mounted on what was a dull shelter that was attracting anti-social behaviour. The shelter has now been transformed with scenes representing the four seasons. In addition, four benches have been replaced, making it the perfect spot for the community to admire the park as a whole.
The Mayor of Enfield Cllr Kate Analoue and Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Cllr Rick Jewell, met the children who explained what influenced their ideas.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment & Sustainability, Cllr Guney Dogan, said: “The Friends group have, with the support of Enfield Council, been making transformative changes to the park including the installation of a willow dome and the planting and upkeep of a wonderful wildlife garden. These kinds of events wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community and the relentless energy of the many volunteers. Congratulations to them all for all their hard work.”
At the summer picnic there were several fun activities for all to enjoy including sports (boccia, croquet, tennis to name but a few), face painting, a string quartet, storytelling and art and crafts. Dr Bike and the Inclusive Cycling team were also on hand to help those of all abilities interested in cycling.
