Overview:
2 hour workshop, followed by a 1.5 hour reflective review, to further explore the reality of embedding key themes into professional practice and potential impact, including upon personhood.
Learning Outcomes:
For participants to:
Acknowledge the significance of reflective practice, related to antiracism and person-centred practice
Explore the role of own attitudes and beliefs and how this impacts language and behaviour in relational working in contemporary contexts
Reflect upon relationship between personal and professional qualities
Define core components and terminology, as point of reference (bias, privilege, broader landscape of DEIB, etc)
Connect Anti-Racism with other aspects of professional practice, including safeguarding
Facilitator:
Joanna Oliver has worked in diverse sectors, such as universities, charities, parent support groups, social care and therapeutic communities, underpinned by BA (hon) Advertising, Media and Marketing, MA Therapeutic Child Care, MA Education, professional qualifications in vocational assessment, supervision and FE teaching. Research experience includes MA research race and ethnicity in therapeutic work, Doctoral research in collaborative working: children, young people and families and current Doctoral research: black young men with autism; experience of the criminal justice system. More recently, Joanna undertook narrative research with black and brown women, who have experienced the removal of their children to local authority care. As a lecturer, Joanna has taught on a BA (hons) programme in Counselling, Coaching and Mentoring, including Therapeutic Work with children and young people and MA level in Equality and Social Justice. Joanna’s experience incorporates working with care leavers, delivering professional training, including culture, race and identity with foster carers and DEI training and infrastructure support for Safer Communities Alliance. Joanna is Co-Lead for Racial Justice at the London ACEs Hub, headlining at an ACEs conference in Wales, representing the London voice and speaking at London Safeguarding Children Partnership Conference, championing race and intersectionality.
