You should apply for Housing Benefit if your caseworker or an income officer has advised you to do so.
Getting help to pay your rent
You are responsible for paying your rent.
For money to pay some or all of your rent, apply for Housing Benefit:
- Sign your rental agreement
- Apply for Housing Benefit – for help, you can ask your caseworker or go to one of our community hubs
How to show and send us evidence
Types of evidence
When you apply, you will need to show or send us evidence for some of your information. For example, you must prove your identity, rent, income, savings, and other capital.
Showing us your proof of identity in person
You cannot post or email us your proof of identity.
Please bring original proof of identity – for you and your partner – to our community hub at Enfield Town Library or Edmonton Green Library.
Emailing us your evidence (but not your proof of identity)
You cannot email us your proof of identity.
For all other evidence, you can email photos or scans to us:
- In the subject line of your email include your Housing Benefit application number in angle brackets like this <>. Example subject line: 'Evidence for Housing Benefit application <12345678>'
- Attach your photos or scans of your documents
- In the body of your email, tell us about the files you have attached
- Make sure the subject line has your Housing Benefit application number
- Check you have attached all your evidence
- Send your email to revs@enfield.gov.uk
You will get an automatic response confirming receipt of your email.

Other ways to get help paying your rent
Renting from Housing Gateway Limited or Enfield Let
Is your rental agreement with 'Housing Gateway Limited (HGL)' or 'Enfield Let'? Please do not apply for Housing Benefit. Instead, you should apply for the Housing Costs element of Universal Credit.
Help if you are living in other kinds of accommodation
If you are not in temporary accommodation arranged by Enfield Council, there are different ways you could get help with your housing costs.
