Replacement certificates

You can order a new certificate online for births, deaths and marriages that have taken place in Enfield since 1837, and civil partnerships since 2005.

If you registered your child in Enfield but they were born in Barnet, you will need to contact Barnet Register Office.

Certificate fees

There is a fee to order a new certificate, depending on the service you choose. You will need to pay the fee by debit or credit card when you order your certificate.

Standard service and waiting times

Standard applications take around 10 working days, but can take longer if the event took place more than 10 years ago.

Priority service

If you need a certificate sooner, you can select our priority service during the online ordering process. There is an extra fee to pay for this service. A priority service application is processed by the next working day. Orders placed after 3pm on a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday are not processed until the next full working day.

Refund and cancellation policy

If we are unable to find the entry from the details you have provided or you decide to cancel your application, you will not get a refund.

We do not accept liability for loss, damage or failure of delivery for certificates dispatched by post. Therefore, we will not refund or issue replacements.

What to do if you have incomplete details

If you are not sure about the details, it may not be possible to find the entry you’re looking for.

For example, you may not know the exact date of birth, or may only know that the event took place in Edmonton but do not know the exact location (such as the hospital or church). In this case, your entry may be held at another register office. This is because Edmonton district records are held at several different register offices.

Identifying a volume and page number for a record at the General Register Office does not help us find a record at Enfield Register Office. This is because the General Register Office has its own cataloguing system.

In instances like this, you should contact the General Register Office. They hold all the birth, death, marriage and civil partnership records for England and Wales, including adoption or still birth certificates.

Copies of divorce documents (decree absolute)

Register offices do not hold records of UK divorces. You can get a copy of a decree absolute or final order on GOV.UK.
