Enfield's Health and Education Access and Resource Team (HEART) promote the health, wellbeing and education of children in care.
Children are placed in care through a voluntary agreement by their parents or as a result of a court care order. Children may be in the care of family members, friends or foster carers. Children in care can be more vulnerable and may need specialist support to safeguard their education.
The role of the Education Welfare Officer based within HEART is to support the education of children in care. To do this, they make schools aware of their role and responsibility to children and encourage schools to participate in training for designated teachers, foster carers and social workers. The Education Welfare Officer also monitors attendance and exclusions of children in care.
