New free SEND school for children with complex autism
Our vision is for all children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities to have high aspirations, and to achieve ambitious and positive lifelong outcomes.
We have identified the need to provide more specialist school places for children and young people aged 11 to 17 with complex autistic spectrum disorder (ASD).
We have been successful in our application to the Department for Education (DfE) to establish a new school providing at least 48 places.
The DfE is accepting applications for free school providers to manage this new school. For guidance, visit GOV.UK - Establishing a new academy: free school presumption. This sets out a timeline and the steps applicants need to take.
Applicants have from 13 May to 31 May to complete an expression of interest form, and from 10 June to 19 July to apply.
For more information on the process, visit GOV.UK - Apply to open a special free school.
We will be hosting engagement events with prospective providers at a date to be confirmed shortly. This will give applicants an opportunity to understand how we see the new school fitting into our strategic approach to supporting children and young people with special educational needs.
