Alternative Provision overview
The Newbury Alternative Provision (AP) team will work in schools in Enfield with both individuals and groups.
The aims are to:
- provide wide-ranging support for secondary schools and Enfield admissions in the Enfield Borough regarding AP
- make sure that every learner referred to AP is matched with a suitable educational provider that meets their individual needs
- facilitate collaboration between learners, schools, parents/carers, and multi-agency workers to promote effective educational outcomes
- monitor and maintain high standards in attendance, achievements, and the overall quality of AP
- address challenges faced by learners and stakeholders, ensuring timely and effective solutions
The objectives
- Support for schools
- Work closely with secondary schools and the Enfield Admissions team to identify learners requiring AP
- Learner Assessment and Placement
- Meet with referred learners and match them with appropriate providers within the AP network
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide information and guidance to learners, parents/carers, and school/AP staff about the available provisions
- Collaboration with Multi-Agency Workers
- Partner with professionals to support young people and enhance their educational experience
- Monitoring and Support
- Track attendance, monitor achievements, and address daily challenges faced by learners and providers
- Quality Assurance
- Make sure contractual compliance and conduct quality assurance reviews to maintain the standard of provision across the network
Learner criteria
- Learners whose behaviour has been identified as causing concern within the school
- Learners who have difficulty meeting the expectations of behaviour within school which affects their ability to engage
- Leaners cannot have an EHCP in place at time of referral
The process
Admission referrals
- Students sent for initial assessment at Enfield college for current working levels
- Family meeting to discuss suitability and placement match, this includes suitability for mainstream school
- Visits to agreed AP’s arranged
- Referral made to AP, start date given and placement commences
School referrals
- School may have meeting direct with learner to discuss AP using our AP brochure
- A discussion with us and school regarding student and reasons for AP
- School refer direct to us or to the AP
Timetable
AP placements are predominantly full time, but there instances of part time.
Behaviour support
A dedicated AP mentor checks in weekly with students and feeds back to relevant professionals including the school.
