Youth Development Service
The Youth Development Service (YDS) works with young people aged 11 to 19 years (and up to 25 with SEND).
We provide a range of positive activities via our 5 open access youth centres, including:
- multi-media
- health and fitness
- music
- dance
- issues-based workshops
We also provide structured activities in which young people can gain a range of nationally recognised awards and qualifications.

Mentoring
Mentors support young people to make informed choices and meet their full potential.
Outreach and detached
The YDS outreach team deliver sessions in areas of the borough with higher levels of youth violence and antisocial behaviour. The aim of the programme is to:
- reduce antisocial behaviour
- build positive relationships with young people in the area
- encourage young people to attend their local youth clubs or other positive activities
Early intervention positive activities
The YDS provides diversional activities for young people who are:
- known to Youth Offending Services
- at risk of offending
- part of a holistic intervention
Youth Leadership Academy
The Youth Leadership Academy is for young people aged 13 to 19 who go to youth clubs. It helps them to gain formal recognition for their involvement as leaders in the design, delivery, evaluation and management of their youth centre and projects.
Summer Uni
Summer Uni provides young people with personal and social development opportunities during the summer holiday.
