Cold callers at your door
Some people on your doorstep may not be as they seem. They could attempt to convince you that work needs to be done on your property. Costs can rise leaving you with no or few consumer rights.
The advice is to not buy anything from or agree anything with cold callers. Instead, report them to Citizens Advice consumer service on 0808 223 1133 and register for local alerts from the police.
Trading Standards have produced Doorstep crime - don't deal at the door (PDF, 178.47 KB) which contains tips, advice, information and a form which you can download to write down details of the cold call incident. There is also a notice that you can print out and display on your property warning cold callers not to knock on your door.
Do not contract on your doorstep and do not deal with cold callers.
