Recycling for flats above shops
Most flats above shops and some blocks of flats, do not have space for recycling bins. In these cases, your recycling is collected in blue recycling sacks.
You can request blue recycling sacks free of charge. They will be collected at the same time and location as your grey rubbish sacks.

Shared food waste bins for flats
If you have a shared food waste bin, you can use it to recycle raw or cooked food waste.
Things that can go in your shared food bin
- General food waste
- Cooked and uncooked food (including meat)
- Compostable bags (with the seed logo)
- Egg shells
- Fish and meat bones
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
You should not put these items in your shared food waste bin
- General rubbish
- General recycling
- Cooking oil (small amounts of cooking oil can be placed in a sealed container and disposed of in the general rubbish bin or taken to Barrowell Green Recycling Centre)
- Dog waste and pet litter
- Garden waste
- Shredded paper

Important - We won’t collect your shared food waste bin if it contains the wrong items because they may make the other items unsuitable for recycling.

Grey rubbish sacks for flats
Your grey rubbish sacks will be delivered to you twice a year (spring and autumn). Grey rubbish sacks and blue recycling sacks (if requested) will be delivered at the same time.
