Equality impact assessments make sure we don't discriminate against service users, residents and staff and that we promote equality. Completing the assessment helps us understand the likely impact of a decision or activity and any actions needed to reduce negative impact or improve equality.
We have a legal duty to complete equality impact assessments under the Equality Act 2010, so that we can:
- eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act
- take steps to meet the needs of people with protected characteristics where these are different from the needs of other people
- advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it
- foster good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and those who do not share it
