Enfield Ukraine Network
The council has set up the Enfield Ukraine Network to support Ukrainians living in Enfield.
A launch event for Ukrainian refugees and their sponsors took place at Enfield Civic Centre on Thursday 25 August 2022.
It was hosted by Enfield Council’s Leader, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, who said: “We want to build on the support Enfield Council has provided so far to make sure that members of our Ukrainian community, many of whom arrived here with very little, have access to the services and help they need to thrive and build a new life in our borough.”
A wide range of partners working with the council to provide support and carry out the government’s Homes for Ukraine Scheme also attended.

Volunteer to home a refugee
Following the government’s launch of the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme, there are 3 routes available to refugees who want to come to the UK:
- the Homes for Ukraine Scheme
- the Ukraine Family Scheme
- through work
All refugees arriving from the Ukraine under these schemes can apply for benefits and seek employment.
Local authorities like Enfield will play a significant role in supporting government resettlement schemes. We will work closely with residents and community organisations to connect those who have spare rooms or homes with groups that could act as the main sponsor, and those who could help with fundraising. We are also taking part in the government’s resettlement programmes for Afghan refugees.
Under the government’s Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme, anyone with a spare bedroom or home can register their interest to provide a home for those from the Ukraine who want to come to the UK.
We will offer the following support:
- Provide a reception to support short-term arrival needs
- Complete safeguarding checks to make sure accommodation is suitable
- Manage interim payments for guests to cover costs until they can access further support
- Provide education places
- Refer to specific public health services where necessary
- Support guests to access local employment opportunities, including Job Centre appointments
- Administer the compensation payment to sponsors of Ukrainian guests
If you have any further questions about the scheme, email homesforukraine@enfield.gov.uk.
